Kathleen "Kathy" Roach-Dehn, 60, of Crete, IL, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2015. She was born March 5, 1955, in Watseka, the daughter of Charles Roach and Shirley (Kerker) Roach. Kathy married Jeff Dehn on September 9, 1987 in Hamilton, Il. He has since passed. Mrs. Dehn was a homemaker. She was an avid bird watcher. Her passion was blue birds. She would put up blue bird boxes and watch them hatch. She also volunteered for the Will County Forrest Preserve District. Surviving Mrs. Dehn is her mother, Shirley Roach of Martinton; one brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Carla Roach of Rochelle, IL; one sister, Ann Roach of Martinton; and four nephews. She is also preceded in death by her father; and husband, Jeff Dehn. Cremation rites have been made accordingly. Burial will be held at a later date at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Martinton.

Bernard Fay “Tater” Tatro, 92, of Watseka, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015. He was born March 11, 1923 in Iroquois Township, the son of Herman Tatro and Eva (Matthew) Tatro. Bernard married Anita Baron in Ashkum, Illinois at the Assumption Church on June 4, 1955. Mr. Tatro owned and operated Tatro Plumbing & Heating in Watseka for 62 years. He was also the Watseka City Inspector and Code Enforcement. He enjoyed Plumbing & Heating and being employed by Watseka as the city inspector, all of which he did until he was 90 years old. He also loved mowing and landscaping as well. Surviving Mr. Tatro are three sons and daughter-in-laws: Dr. Jeffrey A. and Karen Tatro of St. Louis, MO, Robert “Bob” and Pamela “Pam” Tatro of Leadville, CO, Randy S. and Kim Tatro of Watseka, one daughter: Kathy N. Lawrence and Daniel Cahoe of Woodland, Il; one brother-in-law: Weldon “Dick” Taden of Bourbonnais; ten grandchildren: Monica and Matt Ehrhardt of Monument, CO, Kelsey and Marcus Jackson of Colorado Springs, CO, Tyler Long & fiancé Brittany Weaver of Denver, CO, Joshua Long of Denver, CO, Taylor Tatro of Champaign, IL, Parker Tatro of St. Louis, MO, Preston Tatro of St. Louis, MO, Heather Harper of Watseka, Dana Harper of Watseka, Brooke Butler of Watseka; one great-grandchild: Nellie Marie Ehrhardt of Monument, CO; and many nieces and nephews. He is also preceded in death by: both parents, Herman and Eva Tatro; wife, Anita Tatro; twin brother, Bernald Tatro; two sister-in-laws, Charlotte Tatro and Patricia "Patty” Taden. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2015 from 4-8pm, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. A prayer service will take place at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 10:00am, at St. Edmunds Catholic Church in Watseka. Father Michael Powell will officiate. Jerome C. Cotter - 72

Jerome C. Cotter, 72, of Watseka, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015.
He was born May 27, 1942, the son of Lester and Frances (Ratcliff) Cotter, in Iroquois Township, IL.
Mr. Cotter worked for Hamilton Brothers of Watseka for 39 years, until they closed, then opened up his own shop to work on starters, alternators, and hoses.
He was a Shriner and was Worshipful Master from 1999-200 at the Watseka Lodge #446. He was also a member of the 100 mile Trail Horse Association for 30 years, and a member of Scottish Rite – Valley of Danville. Jerome enjoyed horseback riding and anything to do with horse. He also enjoyed visiting at VIPS with his coffee buddies.
Surviving Mr. Cotter is one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Jessica Cotter of Watseka; one daughter, Janice Cotter and fiancé Fred Dietrich of Watseka; two brothers and sister-in-laws, Calvin and Mary Cotter of Watseka, and Lavonne and Liz Cotter of Onarga; one sister and brother-in-law, Estella and Pat McCullough of Watseka; ten grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He is also preceded in death by both his parents; and one sister, Bev Cotter.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 30, 2015 from 4-8pm, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. Masonic Services will take place at 7:00pm.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. A one hour visitation will be held prior to services. Elaine Daugherty will officiate.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Watseka, IL.

George C. Malone, 77, of Watseka, formerly of Cicero, IL, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. He was born August 29, 1937 in Fancy Farm, Kentucky, the son of Homer Malone and Gracie-Lee (Hicks) Malone. He married Wilma F. Johnson on September 20, 1958. She passed in 1997. Mr. Malone was a factory worker. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, horse races, and nursing any and all stray animals. Surviving Mr. Malone is one son, David Malone of Hoopeston; two daughters, Karen Bateman and significant other Jerry Kelley of Melrose Park, IL, and Wilma Harris of Watseka; one sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Earl Gardner of Desoto, Missouri; grandchildren, Sherry (Joel) Conley, Joeseph (Jacey Kiger) Harris, Robert Walski, Shaun Walski, Christopher (Kristen) Walski, Amanda (Roy Poulous) Bateman, Ashley Malone, Cordell Malone; 12 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and 6 nieces and 2 nephews. He is preceded in death by both parents; and wife, Wilma Malone. A Gathering of Friends will be held Saturday, April 11, 2015, from 4-6pm, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. Linda Jane Thorp-Barney, 76, of Watseka, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.
She was born February 23, 1939, the daughter of Donald and Jane (Carlson) Thorp, in Jamestown, New York.
Linda married Donald Barney on June 28, 1958 in Watseka.
Mrs. Barney worked in Medical Records for IMH. She enjoyed going to Lake Shafer and boating.
Surviving Mrs. Barney is her husband, Donald Barney of Watseka; two sons, John Barney of Watseka, and James Barney of Rensselaer, IN; one daughter, Donna Williams of Kankakee; two sisters and brother-in-law, Susan and Dean Hill of Fort Myers, FL, and Linnea Ritchie of Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren, Derek and Amanda Houdashell-Williams of Mesa, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
She is also preceded in death by both her parents; and one granddaughter, Stacey Williams.
A Gathering of Friends will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 12p-3p, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka.

William J. Ahlgren - 92

William J. “Bill” Ahlgren, 92, passed away at his winter home in Yuma, Arizona, on March 20, 2015. Bill Ahlgren was born in Watseka, Illinois, in 1922 and graduated from Watseka High School in 1940. He played football, basketball and was a pole vaulter. He served with the United States Army Air Corp until the end of World War II. He returned to Watseka and in 1946 married Reta D. Ralph. Bill apprenticed and became a tool and die maker at the Western Condenser factory in Watseka, where he worked until it closed in 1969. He then worked for the General Electric Company in Normal, Illinois, advancing to become an automations designer. He retired from GE in 1984 but continued to work for Airtex in Fairfield, Illinois, until 1987. After retirement, Bill and Reta returned to Watseka, but have spent the past twenty-five winters in Yuma, Arizona. Mr. Ahlgren was an avid airplane modeler. He helped found the Flying Falcon’s Model Airplane club during the era of U-line flight and later transitioned to radio-controlled planes. Bill’s second love was fishing. He spent many weekends and most summer vacations with his family camping and fishing. As empty nesters, Bill and Reta toured the US on their motorcycle. In retirement, he built and competed in Soling One-Meter boat races. Bill also enjoyed playing pool with friends and family which he did until his last days. Mr. Ahlgren is survived by his wife of 67 years, Reta, as well as his three children, Melina Campbell, Laurie Latchaw, and Christopher Ahlgren; and four grandchildren, John Latchaw, Chris Ahlgren Jr., William R. Ahlgren, and Mari Campbell. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2015 from 1:30pm-3:00 pm, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka, Illinois. Funeral Services will take place at 3:00pm on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at the Baier Funeral Home in Watseka, Illinois. Burial will be in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, at the Lakeview Cemetery in the late spring.

Rose Marie Howe, 53, of Watseka, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 at her home surrounded by loved ones.

She was born June 27, 1961, the daughter of Frank Soranno and Mary (Troendle) Soranno, in Harrison Charter Township, MI, at the Self Ridge Air Force Base.

Rose married Mark Howe on February 2, 1985 in Watseka, IL.

Mrs. Howe was a Customer Service Representative at Cigna. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting, cross stitching, and baking.

Surviving Mrs. Howe is her husband, Mark Howe of Watseka; two daughters and son-in-law, Dawn Howe of Watseka, and Niccole and Marty Peck of Watseka; father, Frank Soranno of Detroit, MI; mother, Mary Troendle of Watseka; two brothers and sister-in-law, Daniel Soranno of Sheldon, and Frank and Lynn Soranno of Nevada; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Deb and Tom Madey of Florida, and Tina and Fernando Anaya of Texas; two grandchildren, Haylie and Markus Peck of Watseka; grandmother, Rosina Soranno of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.

She is also preceded in death by one paternal grandfather and both maternal grandparents.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 4-7pm, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. A one hour visitation will be held prior to services. Pastor Joseph Hughes will officiate.

Burial will follow at the GAR Cemetery in Watseka, IL.

Betty "Diane" Sherman, 62, of Watseka, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 at her home.

She was born July 18, 1952 in Galesburg, IL, the daughter of Russell Watkins and Betty (Emken) Watkins.

She married Jerald Lynn Sherman on May 6, 1972 at the Elmwood Methodist Church.

Mrs. Sherman was a Merchandising Manager for Big R Stores. She enjoyed crafts, painting, wood working, cross stitching, fishing, gardening, Caribbean cruises, and spending time with family and friends at Two Crows Acres (Watkins' Farm).

Surviving Mrs. Sherman is her husband, Jerald Lynn Sherman of Watseka; one son and daughter-in-law, Jason Sherman of Farmington, Il, and Shantel Sherman of Farmington, Il; one daughter, Melissa Sherman and fiancé Bart Heckman of Chicago; one sister and brother-in-law, Julie Wherley of Canton, Il, and Randy Wherley of Lafayette, IN; three grandchildren, Kassidy Harper of Watseka, Il, Jordan Sherman of Burlington, IA, and Brian Sherman of Farmington, Il; nieces and nephews, Mike Wherley of Canton, IL; Adam Wherley of Canton, IL; Brandon Wherley of Lafayette, IN; Michelle Marten of Montana; Megan Haynes of Montana; Mike Sherman of Illinois; Tim Goeppinger of Sonoma, CA; Tom Goeppinger of Milwaukee, WI; Toby Goeppinger of St. Louis, MO; Tyson Goeppinger of Seattle, WA; Tracy Goeppinger of Woodinville, WA; Danial Knox of Waukegan, IL; Shelly Bloomer of Maquon, IL; and Josh Knox of Missouri.

He was born October 25, 1954, the son of Cletus Walls and Maxie (Sweat) Walls, in Adamsville, Tennessee.

Mr. Walls was a carpenter. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing the guitar and singing.
